Backdrops for theater productions, murals for event and stage
The background is the largest part of the set and is generally painted to create the illusion of rooms or open spaces. Characteristic of theater stage painting is its lose brushstrokes. Due to the distance between stage and audience, emphasis lies mainly on a good distant effect of the painting.
Generally the huge sceneries are painted on the floor. Replicating an image to a large scale belongs to my specialized knowledge as a scenic artist, as well as the ability to work independently and to deadlines.
The set designer may give model paintings that are supposed to replicate exactly. Other times the set designer may only brief me about what he is supposed to create, and I paint using my own artistic vision.
